A common issue amongst the more fashion-conscious amongst us is the realities of not being able to wear or store all of the clothing and shoes they buy. While having an extensive wardrobe is a great feeling, at some point, you need to be realistic about how you will be storing your purchases and if you will actually be wearing all of them regularly or if they will be left to languish in your closet after one or two wears.
There are many options you have when it comes to organizing your fashion purchases to avoid excess clutter at home.
Purpose-Built Storage
One such option is to design yourself the perfect closet to house all your purchases and has the room to expand in the future. A walk-in closet that has hanging space for dresses, trousers, and coats along with drawers for sweaters, t-shirts, and so on, along with shoe storage and a save for your jewelry too.
If you can’t afford the money or space to a dedicated walk-in closet, using a smaller room in your home that isn’t currently being used can be a great alternative, as can adding storage options to put away any items you aren’t wearing or seasonal clothing, e.g., storing winter clothing in summer, etc. Vacuum storage bags can help you to condense down any clothing you are putting into storage.
Selling
Be honest with yourself about anything you have bought and will no longer wear or even regret buying as it didn’t quite look the same in real life or you didn’t like the way it fits you. Sort these items from the clothing you wish to keep and create yourself a profile on a second-hand selling site that allows you to reduce how many clothes you have and get money back for anything you no longer want or need. There are things to consider when selling your unwanted goods, such as the shipping options you will offer and any geographical limitations you need to have, such as postage in the US only.
Donating
If you don’t want to sell your clothes, how about donating them to a worthy cause. Many charities across the US would be grateful for any clothing donations that can be used to sell on or to distribute to families that need them.
Choose a charity close to your heart, create a gift list of items you are looking to clear out, and offer your donation. Goodwill, The Salvation Army, Project G.L.A.M, and SolesforSouls are worthy organizations that accept clothing donations.
Storage
Another viable option is to pay for storage for your excess clothing, shoes, and accessories. If you live in a small home and need to declutter without permanently removing anything from your collection, then looking for a storage company that can provide you with space for your collection is the next best option.
Many storage companies offer different storage solutions for your needs and grant access, so you can always add to what you store or switch up your winter clothing for spring items and vice versa.
