Guest post: How to wear harem pants

This is a guest post by the lovely Christen of La Rue Neuve, she has a great style and I always find her outfits inspirational.

How to wear harem pants? That’s easy. With jackets! As I sat down to write this post, I started by pulling from my blog all of my favorite outfits incorporating harem pants. I had full intentions of coming up with at least three different ways to wear harem pants. But to my complete surprise, ALL of my pictures showed me wearing harem pants with a jacket! Granted, all of the jackets were different but still… Oh well, I don’t think that takes away from this post at all! The following pictures are of me wearing three different pairs of harem pants in various ways.

Whenever I post harem pants on La Rue Neuve, I always get comments from my readers about how they could never pull them off. But I think harem pants are really easy to wear. The draping is incredibly forgiving (especially for those of us with wide hips) and actually flattering. But with that much volume, it’s important to keep the rest of the look closer to the body. I think the reason I naturally gravitate toward jackets with harem pants is because of the structure they offer. The structure of a jacket is a great way to balance out the volume of the pants. Other than that, they are completely versatile. Boots, wedges or heels. Tights or bare legs. And accessorize, accessorize, accessorize! Regular pants can be so boring – I actually don’t even wear them very often because of it. And jeans are too casual for many venues. But harem pants make a great statement while still being figure-flattering and can be worn dressed up or dressed down. It doesn’t get much easier or more versatile than that, ladies!
