UAD Gala 2011 2

*image heavy*

I wanted to post about the UAD Gala yesterday , but for some reason I didn’t find the right words, not that now I did… what can I say, I’ve read lots of articles about past ro events that weren’t that great but this is not the case, everything was spot on. Even though there were 28 collections, 29 if we count the Jolidon beachwear collection, there were sent down the catwalk in such a way that didn’t weary or bored the public, because let’s face it, one hundred forty outfits isn’t something you watch every day. At least, I don’t… So, congrats to Elena Basso Stanescu & Lucian Broscatean!
Also, everybody seemed so genuinely nice and I had such an awkward feeling when my real name was said when they announced the Perwoll award jury…
Now, about the actual collections, the first twenty were the final works of post grad students and the eight other ones, the grads designs.
The two young designers which received the Perwoll award on behalf of Henkel Romania are Pirau Doina with Ethnic Vibes and Boariu Andreea with the Meltin’ Pot collection behind which lays a very interesting story, will get there in a bit. These two along with Taak’n Chilam by Buda Mioara Fulga, Organic Knots by Davidoaia Ioana Laura, Army of Navy Blues by Kovacs Eszter and Network Dynamics by Frisan Mirela were my personal favorites.
Like I said before, the winners had two different approaches minimalist & bohemian. Inspired by Amerindian tribes Doina Pirau’s ethnic vibes is a great example of less is more & deconstruction, on the other hand Meltin’ Pot, Andreea Boariu’s line, is a multiculturalism mix and match of prints, materials and colors. Meltin’ Pot is a fun & flirty collection which denotes the positive and optimistic side of Romanian gypsies, because racism is a big thing here and we shouldn’t put everybody in the same pot:)
Still, there are three more collections of the grad students that I liked designed by Teodora Baciu , Constantin Babeanu and Ovidiu Pop which are finalists in the up and coming Pasarela event. Teodora Baciu’s printed dresses are a must!
Also, Marian Palie interviewed the winners & the three finalists, you can read all the interviews soon on Atelier Perwoll and I’m guessing that on doitreisi.ro too.
All in all, it was a fun experience!
